Color of the Year
Beginning back in the year 2000, the color-matching company Pantone has been releasing a color of the year every January that impacts both the fashion, marketing, and design world. When questioned on their color-picking process, Pantone employees explained that the color they choose for the year is a “forecast” to represent what will happen in the world during the year.
2018’s color of the year is titled, “Ultra Violet” which is a deep purple color accentuated with pale lavender undertones. It’s described as a color that “exudes inventiveness, imagination, and visionary thinking” which can align with the various technological advances that are being planned for and produced in 2018. According to smallbiztrends.com, Ultra Violet along with other various hues of purple represent luxury, wisdom, respect, and most importantly, creativity. Purple is also frequently found being used in most beauty products, which can also mean 2018 will be a big year for marketing in the beauty and fashion industry.
The color of the year aids companies in guiding their designs and planning for future products, so many are expecting to see various new products using this newly developed purple color all over all types brands as well.
Pantone has more information all about the color of the year and a timeline of the colors they have chosen in the past eighteen years on their website.
